FIG Restaurant: Always In Season

March 25, 2018

A California bistro with Mediterranean influence.

This weekend I hopped over to Santa Monica to try out FIG Restaurant inside Fairmont Miramar. FIG nailed everything from presentation to taste flurry. Its intimate interiors translate well into its food, as each dish is a thoughtful blend of seasonal ingredients from local farms.

What we tried:

Old Toddy This was a refreshing take on an old fashioned. While I like my bourbon a little later in the day, the combination of Makers 46 with earl grey tea, lemon and honey made it refreshing enough to have with brunch!

FRONT: OLD TODDY / BACK: CASA 75 (CASAMIGOS ANEJO, CAMPARI, AGAVE, LANSON ROSE CHAMPAGNE)

POOLSIDE BRUNCH, ANYONE?

Baked Egg Shakshouka Have you ever tried a shakshouka? FIG made it happen as a first for me! This, as a starter, woke up my palette with San Marzano tomatoes, Allepo chilies and mint salsa verde on grilled bread. Adding the baked egg on top solidified my first experience!

“AM I DOING THIS RIGHT??”

Mediterranean Cobb So many exciting flavors in this salad; I don’t know what to begin with. The oregano dressing turned the usual cobb fare into a refreshing crunch, paired along a 6 minute egg and extremely juicy chicken.

??? I don’t know what this is called, or if it is even on the menu. FIG Restaurant really knows how to make their drinks! This came out as a surprise and was one of the best tasting cocktails I’ve had. Orange creamsicle? Coconut mule? Maybe I’ll never find out, but we made sure to finish every last drop!

GIVE ME ALL THE POMEGRANATES

FRESHLY SQUEEZED ORANGE JUICE

Winter Squash Pizza The real winner of brunch! And yes, again with the pomegranates! *heart eyes* Adding pomegranates to pizza added a little crunch AND a little tart–two things you wouldn’t expect. Unfortunately by this time we were almost full, but we HAD to take the rest of the pizza home. There was no wasting here!

PIZZA WITH BUTTERNUT SQUASH, KALE, VELLA DRY JACK AND POMEGRANATE

Brioche French Toast This almost tasted like a cinnamon bun crossed with an apple pie! Another surprising flavor mix and the perfect way to end the meal.

I’ll be sure to come back after hearing about FIG’s FIG at FIVE, where they offer most of their menu items for 50% off from 5-6pm, 7 days a week! Since it’s so close to the beach and summer’s just around the corner, I know it will be the perfect stop before a sweet sunset stroll.

THANK YOU FOR HAVING US, FIG RESTAURANT!
